News for week : Monday 23rd May Recently, we recieved correspondance from Andy Moran from Mayo. He runs the http://www.totalgaacoach.com/ website. This is a brilliant resource providing a library of training drills and information on coaching, strength & conditioning, nutrition, sports psychology, rehabilitation and all performance areas related to the GAA. Well worth a read. Our intermediates play Feohanagh/Castlemahon next Thursday May 26th in the West Final in Rathkeale at 7.30pm This game will be played on in Rathkeale Gaa pitch and not the county grounds mick Neville. Athea GAA Club Draw: : CLUB DEVELOPMENT DRAW 2011 Tickets. 8 Draws in Total €11,200 prize money Tickets €80 or €10 per draw. Prize Money ranges from 1st prize €400 to a 6th prize of €15. There is a special prize for fully paid up members of €800. Promoter prize €50 each month. Club Members are calling door to door selling the tickets. You support would be greatly appreciated. News for week : Thursday 26th May Last year a new Crest(See above) was unveiled for the Club. The Crest which was designed by Amy O' Riordan, Lower Direen is now proudly worn on the new tracksuits commissioned last year. News for week : Monday 20th June Athea U-12's travelled to Askeaton on Wednesday evening last, June 15th, to take on Askeaton/Ballysteen. Details on the game can be seen here Sunday June 19th was a great day for our U-6 team as they took to the field for the first time this year against Fr. Casey's. This game was provisionally fixed for Abbeyfeale but HAS NOW BEING CHANGED TO TOURNAFOLA. All support welcome for the hardworking players and management. Last Night - June 25th - Intermediate Championship Last night in Tournafola we defeated Ballyhahill on a scoreline of 3-8 to 0-8. Goals from Ger Ahern(pen), Kevin O Keefee and Jamie Collins saw us run out 9 point winners. We had 15 men of the match with everyone playing out of their skins. It in unfair to name a few, but some of the younger players, like Denis Greaney and Darren Murphy stood up and gave man of the match performances. It was Jamie Collins that was named official man of the match after in Brown Joes. Next up is Cappamore, with time, date and venue to be announced. Welcome to the Athea GAA website. This website will act as a means through which you the public can keep in touch with all events happening within our club and the surrounding area. Athea GAA is an extremely proud West Limerick club. Nestled on the banks of the Gale , our club down through the years enjoyed many successes at all levels of competition. Predominantly a football playing club, we currently have teams competing successfully at all grades, namely U10, U12, U14, U16, Minor, U21, Junior and Intermediate Level.

The under 14's made it two wins from two with a a great performance and good result against Dromcollogher/Broadford. The final score was Athea 6-10 Dromcollogher/Broadford 5-4. Details can be seen here
Our U12's played Glin in Páirc na nGael last Thursday evening. Despite losing on a scoreline of 4-4 to 4-8 we acquitted ourselves very well. Were looking forward to to our next game. Details on this game can be seen here.
Our U-16's travelled to Coolcappagh on a very windy Monday evening to take on St. Kierans. We lost this game on a scoreline of 0-10 to 2-6. Details can be seen here

On Monday July 11th on a lovely calm evening for football our U-16's played host to Monagea, but it was Monagea who settled the quickest and were 2 points up after 5 minutes. Full details on this can be seen here

Limerick Senior Footballers had a great win over Offaly in Round 2 of the qualifiers on Saturday last on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-15. They now meet Waterford in the Gaelic grounds this Saturday at 7pm.

Well done to Feale Rangers who continued on their winning ways with a great victory over Newcastle West on Thursday evening last on scoreline of 0-13 to 0-11.
Limerick Senior Footballers progressed to the next round of the qualifiers after defeating Waterford by 5 points in the Gaelic grounds on Saturday evening last on a scoreline of 0-14 to 0-09. They will now play Wexford in Portlaoise next Saturday evening at 7pm.

This year the GAA will be holding Super camps for 13 - 15 year old Boys and Girls. These camps will run for three days, from 10.00am to 2:30pm. The Super camp will take place in Mick Neville Park on Tuesday 16th of August to Thursday 18th of August. The cost of the camp is €35 euro. Each participant will receive a camp jersey. The camps will involve all codes, Football, Ladies Football, Hurling, Camogie, Handball and Rounders. Application forms are available from Jacqueline. Limerick Senior Footballers bowed out of this years Championship after losing to Kerry at the quarter final stage in Croke Park on Sunday last. The final score was Limerick 0-10 Kerry 1-20 and once again it was great to see a number of Athea people both young and old, travel to Dublin to support the team. Congratulations and best wishes to Denis Collins and Sarah Moloney who were married last Saturday. May they have many happy years together. On a misty Tuesday morning last, beneath the Kerry mountains in Killarney our U-12's travelled to Fitzgerald stadium to part in the Munster activity days. Details can be seen here

Limerick Senior Footballers qualified for the All Ireland quarter finals for the first time after defeating Wexford in a thrilling match by 1 point in Portlaoise on Saturday evening last on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-17. It was great to see a number of supporters from Athea travel to O' Moore park to cheer them on. They will now play Kerry in Croke Park next Sunday 31st of July at 2pm. Feale Rangers defeated Adare on Sunday night in Athea with two late goals from Maurice Hayes and a Pa Delee penalty making the win look more comfortable than it was. Full details can be seen here
Our Intermediates defeated Cappamore on a score line of 1-12 to 3-4 in the 4th round of the Intermediate football championship. The game was played in Clarina last Friday, August 12th . This was a tough, physical encounter right from the throw-in. Full details can be seen here.
