The current crop of players that are available to Athea's Intermediate manager and selectors are a mix of experienced, intermediate and young players. This year we have very extremely experienced players like 1991 West U1’1994 Junior B winner Dennis Collins and Brian Ahern, 1994 U21 B Football championship winners Michael Ahern and Eamonn Murphy, 1995 County championship winner Patrick Ahern, 1997 West Junior 'A' championship winners, Tadghy Hanrahan, Philip Woulfe, Patrick Ahern and John Cotter, 1999 U21 ‘B’ championship winners Paul Collins and Gerard Collins, 1995 Minor Championship winner Brian McKenna, the U21 ‘B’ championship winner Tomas Mullane, 2006 Intermediate championship winner Tom Collins, 1994 West U12 ‘B’ champion Martin Chalke, Kevin O Keefee, Michael Reidy and 2000 U16 ‘C’ championship winner Patrick Horgan(aka Navan). The 1999 U14 ‘A’ County and West 'A' winners also make up a big bulk of our team. Players of the calibre of Tim Enright, Stephen O Connor, Matthew Tierney, Gerard Ahern, Sean Liston, Michael Matthews, Gerry Quille, Morgan O Connor, Tom Greaney, Liam Chalke and John Geoghegan. We also would have a number of younger players again, with the like of Paul Matthews, Padraig Horgan, Conor Mullane and the McGrath brothers. As is the problem with other clubs similar to ours we have the absence of many first team players. With the current climate, the GAA at both local and intercounty level are losing some great talent to the lure of work and for a better lifestyle abroad and who can blame them, and good luck to all. This year we are hit particularly hard with the absence of many first team starters like Patrick Chalke ,left half forward Mark Reidy, brother of Padraig. While these players are an exceptional loss, we feel that with the current mix of experience and youth we have, we feel we can still compete successfully with the best in 2011.
